The Novo Nordisk Foundation is building a quantum chip factory in Copenhagen, Denmark, dedicated to designing and manufacturing core processing units for quantum computers. The project will be operated by the Copenhagen Quantum Foundry.

CEO Peter Krogstrup revealed that the Foundation has committed DKK 400 million ($62 million) to cover R&D, construction, and pre‑production preparations. Additional funding will be required for production line setup, with the facility expected to become operational in about two years.

Krogstrup noted that the quantum computing race is intense – with governments and commercial players all vying for early leadership. He emphasized that maintaining technological advantage is critical in this high‑difficulty field.

The Foundation has now invested over SEK 2.9 billion ($285M) in quantum technologies, including a plan to build a quantum computer in Copenhagen by 2034 and procure Microsoft quantum hardware.
